Why was the baby blown to safety?

Innocent Lanier presents the haunting question for all disaster survivors:
Was he saved for a reason? Can thinking so make it real...or is it real? Do people invest the child with powers they think he must have, or does he truly have divine powers and a special purpose?

Both Lanier and his small Southern, community wrestle with the mystical,
healing powers of this baby, and then boy, who was blown to safety in
the tornado that took the lives of his parents.
